The police questioned a man from Germany about the death of 14-year-old Tamar from Marken. It is the owner of the gray Mazda who, according to police, was “more than likely” involved in her death.
Police say the man was determined to be the driver of the car at the time of the accident. It concerns a 28-year-old German who came to the Netherlands voluntarily after the intervention of a Dutch lawyer.
The man is allowed to await further investigation in freedom, as no pre-trial detention is permitted for the offense of which he is suspected: leaving a scene of an accident. He still remains a suspect.
While the investigation is ongoing, the police will not make any further statements about the content of the conversation with the suspect.
‘Many scenarios are open’
According to the AD The co-driver, a 25-year-old German man, was also questioned. His role is still under investigation.
Their lawyer tells the newspaper that the men were on a camping visit in the Netherlands. Then they drove to Marken. On the way they “may have felt” that they had run over something. They did not feel that they were hitting anything, the lawyer said.
Shortly afterwards, they got out in a parking lot and inspected the car, as shown on declassified police surveillance footage.
The lawyer emphasizes that there are still “many scenarios” open. “Including the scenario that Tamar had already been hit or died and that the current suspects may have hit her with their car afterwards,” he says. “It is crucial that all possible scenarios are investigated. That takes a lot of time, but does justice to the harrowing incident.”
Gray Mazda
Tamar was found dead early in the morning on July 25 in the verge along the dike between Monnickendam and Marken. Skid marks on the road and injuries on her body indicated that she was most likely killed in a collision.
On August 10, the gray Mazda was seized after, among other things, surveillance footage was released by the police showing the car.
Three days after Tamar was found, her mother at Op1 made a call to the motorist to report:
