Suspect arrested for robbing an elderly man at the point of a cutter in an elevator in NYC – NBC New York (47)

Police announced over the weekend the arrest of a man suspected of robbing an 80-year-old man in Alphabet Citand, Manhattan, on October 28.

The old man was returning home when he was cornered in the elevator of his building by a suspect brandishing a box cutter, according to police.

On Saturday, the New York City Police announced the arrest of a 50-year-old man who lives in the vicinity of the crime scene and is allegedly the attacker. Authorities say he faces charges of robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.

The robbery occurred in the afternoon shortly after 2:00 pm in Alphabet City. Police confirmed that the robbery began when the suspect asked the victim for a cigarette.

The suspect then followed the elderly man into the building’s lobby and elevator, where he cornered the victim while sitting in his walker.

Police say it was then that the suspect pulled out the box cutter and demanded money. Surveillance video in the elevator captured the entire robbery, including the moment the suspect grabs the victim’s wallet and takes out $ 60.
