NEW YORK – A baby died Thursday after suffering unthinkable physical abuse at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend, who is now in police custody and facing murder charges, police sources confirmed to our sister network. NBC New York.
Keishawn Gordon, 23, was also charged with manslaughter, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault.
Police sources indicate that the suspect from the Bronx beat the one-year-old baby to death, broke his ribs and injured his liver, among other violent acts.
According to the New York City Police, the incident occurred on September 9, around 3:00 p.m., when authorities received a 9-1-1 call about an unconscious child inside an apartment in Webster Houses, 420 East 169 Street.
Upon arrival they found the one-year-old boy, identified as Legacy Beauford, in the room and he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police sources indicated that the suspect had beaten the minor because he allegedly did not stop crying.
The coroner will release the cause of death.
Police did not release whether the victim’s mother was at the scene. According to the preliminary police report, Gordon and the 1-year-old lived in the same apartment.
The case remains under investigation.
