More than two years after the robbery of the goldsmith company Frank & Person, on May 4, 2019 in Châtillon-le-Duc, near Besançon (Doubs), one of the main suspects was arrested on the night of January 31 to 1 February in the Pontarlier sector.
He is suspected of being one of the masterminds who organized the theft of 20 kilos of gold, but also of platinum, for a value of more than one million euros. Three other suspects were arrested during this dragnet by the gendarmes in the Doubs indicates France Bleu Besançon.
The main suspect had therefore been slipping through the fingers of the investigators for more than two years, who nevertheless thought they arrested him for the first time in September 2019. He was then found during a search of his parents’ home in Thise, a neighboring town of Besançon, but had taken advantage of a moment of inattention by the gendarmes to jump out of the window of the house and flee. The impressive police operation had nevertheless led to the arrest of six people at the time.
Actively sought, the investigators had hoped to find his trace in Algeria, where his brother had been arrested in early 2020, but they did not find him there. It was in 2021 that the investigations resumed when the gendarmes learned of his return to France.
He was finally “housed” in Haut-Doubs and then arrested on the night of January 31 to February 1 as part of a judicial investigation opened for criminal association the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Nancy.
