Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said 27-year-old Reginald Jakes was arrested Friday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a man pulled out a machete and attacked two people on a Charlotte Area Transit System bus.

Both people were taken to the hospital with injuries that are said not to endanger their lives.

Jakes was found south of downtown and interviewed before being transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. It is not known if he has a lawyer.

Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, which is located near the scene of the incident, was closed after the attack, but a hospital spokeswoman said the man never entered the building.
