A suspect was arrested in the investigation into the murder of four students in the US state of Idaho last month. This is a 28-year-old man arrested by police in the morning (local time) at a house in Pennsylvania.

The victims lived in Moscow and were stabbed to death in their sleep in late November. They all had multiple stab wounds. It involved three women and one man. The three students were roommates, the man was the boyfriend of one of them. The victims came from the states of Idaho and Washington.

The killings caused an uproar in Moscow, which has a population of about 25,000. For example, the case led to a temporary exodus from the university where the four studied. Half of the students decided to temporarily leave Moscow after the murders.

The case has also been surrounded by many questions. For example, it was unclear why students were being targeted. No traces of theft were found in their home. There has been much speculation on social media about the circumstances.

For weeks, authorities have failed to identify a suspect or trace the murder weapon. International news agencies write that a police call eventually led to the breakthrough.

Police had released footage of a white car parked near the student house at the time of the murder. The vehicle led to suspicion. The murder weapon is still being sought.
