Suspect (14) arrested for stabbing incident Hilversum

NOS News

The police arrested a 14-year-old suspect on Sunday morning because of involvement in a stabbing incident in Hilversum, the police reported on Twitter late on Sunday evening. A 14-year-old boy from Hilversum was injured in the incident on Friday afternoon.

The suspect has been taken into custody, police say. This means that he will be detained for a maximum of three days during the police investigation. The 14-year-old is expected to be questioned on Monday.

The 14-year-old victim reported to a GP on Friday at the end of the afternoon with a serious stab wound. He was admitted to hospital for observation. Whether the boy has since returned home has not been disclosed.

More stabbing incidents

Several stabbing incidents were reported last week. In addition to Hilversum, things went wrong in Maastricht and Sittard, among others.

A week earlier, a 39-year-old snack bar owner was stabbed to death on the street in The Hague. Two girls aged 15 and 17 and a boy aged 17 are suspects in the case.

Knife ban

Since 2017, there has been an increase in violence by minors at a national level, although according to the Public Prosecution Service there is still insufficient insight into knife possession by young people.

Many mayors are calling for a ban on knives for minors. The cabinet is working on a law that should prohibit the sale of certain knives to young people.
