Eningen unter Achalm (dpa/lsw) – The meeting focused on the working conditions of women and ways to avoid poverty in old age. CDU state leader Thomas Strobl underlined the importance of the recently adopted state electoral law in order to bring more women into the state parliament. At the beginning of April, after years of struggle, parliament passed a reform of the electoral law. In future, the state parliament in Baden-Württemberg can be elected from the age of 16. The reform not only lowers the minimum voting age for state elections, referendums, referendums and popular initiatives by two years, but also introduces two-vote voting rights. The reform should also ensure that more women enter the plenum.
Wetterich warned, however, that the changed electoral law would not automatically lead to more women entering parliament. Great efforts and persuasion will continue to be required to ensure that more women are nominated as candidates in the constituencies and that they receive promising places on the state lists. The CDU is still far from having nearly as many women as men. “We must and will continue our commitment to more women in the CDU, in offices and mandates,” said Wetterich.
