Secretary General of the NasDem Party Hermawi Taslim declared their General Chair Surya Paloh attended the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Sunday (18/2) evening at the invitation of the President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
This also clarifies the statement by Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana who said the meeting was at Surya Paloh’s request.
“The presence of NasDem Chairman Pak Surya Paloh at the State Palace was in response to President Jokowi’s dinner invitation,” said NasDem Party Secretary General Hermawi Taslim in his statement.
Previously, Ari Dwipayana said that the meeting between Jokowi and Surya Paloh was held at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (18/2) according to Surya Paloh’s request.
Ari explained that in the meeting the two of them discussed many things, from the national agenda to preparations to face global challenges. Not to be left behind, he said, Jokowi and Surya Paloh also discussed political dynamics after the 2024 elections.
“The gathering discussed the national agenda, facing various global challenges, including matters related to political dynamics and elections,” said Ari.
“As the President said some time ago, friendship with national figures and political figures is very good, especially for the good of the nation and state,” he added.
However, Ari did not explain further regarding the request for a meeting requested by Surya Paloh after the 2024 presidential election.
“Previously, Mr. Surya Paloh submitted a request to meet the President. In response to this request, the President allocated time to receive Mr. Surya Paloh, last evening at the Merdeka Palace,” he said.
This meeting is believed to be the first held by Jokowi and Surya Paloh after the 2024 elections.
Surya Paloh previously held a meeting with presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan on Friday (16/2). Anies said his meeting with Surya Paloh was to discuss facts related to the election.
“We discussed developments, matched each other’s views,” he said in Jakarta, Friday (16/2).
Apart from that, Surya Paloh also previously said that it is possible that in the near future he will communicate with the General Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Megawati Soekarnoputri to discuss developments in the 2024 Presidential-Vice Presidential Election (Pilpres).
He said this after exercising his voting rights in the 2024 Election at the TPS in Grogol Utara Village, Kebayoran Lama District, South Jakarta, Wednesday (14/2).
