TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – General Chair of the Party NasDem Solar Paloh confirmed his meeting with President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi at the State Palace Thursday afternoon. However, he did not explain clearly what was discussed in the meeting.
“Yes, I usually talk to friends, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you,” said Surya Paloh when met at the NasDem Tower, Jakarta on Thursday evening, August 31, 2023.
However, he admitted that there was discussion about politics ahead of the 2024 election. “Yes,” he said. Paloh said the chapters discussed were about atmosphere, circumstances, politics, including a calm atmosphere.
Surya Paloh’s meeting with Jokowi took place amidst rumors that Anies Baswedan, the candidate supported by the NasDem Party, had made his choice, namely PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar as his vice presidential candidate.
When asked if there was any discussion about the Anies-Muhaimin duet, Paloh did not give a firm answer.

“We discussed all kinds of matters together, in an atmosphere, because we haven’t seen each other for some time, the atmosphere was warm,” he said.
Surya Paloh is known to have visited the Palace on Thursday afternoon around 17.30 WIB. The meeting lasted more than 15 minutes.
It is suspected that Anjangsana Surya Paloh and Jokowi discussed the decision to pair NasDem Bacapres Anies Baswedan and PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin as Vice Presidential Vice Chancellor.
The news that Anies took Muhaimin as vice presidential candidate was revealed by the Democrat Party. Secretary General of the Democratic Party Teuku Riefky Harsya said that news of Anies’ decision to choose Muhaimin alias Cak Imin was originally received from Sudirman Said, a member of Team 8 which consists of politicians in the Change Coalition for Unity.
The Democratic Party is part of the Coalition for Change together with PKS and NasDem.
According to Riefky, they were forced to accept this decision regarding Anies-Cak Imin. This agreement, said Riefky, was carried out unilaterally at the initiative of the Ketum Nasdem, Surya Paloh,” said Riefky in his statement Thursday evening, August 31, 2023.
The Democrats, he said, then confirmed the news to Anies Baswedan today. “He confirmed that the news is true. Democrats ‘forced’ to accept the decision (fait accompli),” he said.
