On August 4, 2020, a large explosion occurred in the port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, killing more than 220 people. In this explosion, some people were lucky enough to survive, but what this explosion brought to them was permanent physical disability and endless psychological trauma.
This guy is Dani Salama, and he injured his spine in the 2020 Beirut port explosion.
Bombing survivor Dani Salama: I was injured in the explosion. In 2015 I had already been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and it made me very debilitated. Because of the illness, I had to avoid injury, strong emotions, stress, and exposure to extreme heat or cold. The Beirut port explosion damaged my spine, and I haven’t been able to move without a walker since.
Due to the continuous shocks to the Lebanese economy in the past few years, there has been a severe shortage of food and medicine. In the case of limited mobility, Salama has to look for medicine to treat the disease everywhere.
Bombing survivor Dani Salama: I can’t find the medicine I need, and all the people with multiple sclerosis can’t find the medicine. Because of that, I fell when I was going out and I had 10 stitches, which is why I had a bandage.
Bombing survivors like Salama said that Lebanon’s tense economic situation has failed to provide them with adequate medical and financial support. They feel abandoned by the country.
Bombing survivor Dani Salama: Words cannot describe how much the bombing has affected my life, I lost my car, my home, my job, my mobility, I lost everything. But no one can take care of us, I hope someone can help us.
