William Green, 43, was handcuffed behind his back in a police car in Prince George’s County, Maryland on January 27 when he was hit by a bullet six times. He died a day later.

The man had been arrested for a traffic violation. The officer in question (also black) said that he had fired in self-defense because Green would have wanted to take his weapon. This Michael Owen has been fired and is being charged with manslaughter.

Lawyer William Murphy spoke of a “historic” settlement. “Black lives matter,” he told the Washington Post.

It is one of the largest civil settlements ever in the US for cases where the police killed someone. Two weeks ago it was announced that the family of Breonna Taylor (26) will receive 12 million dollars from the city of Louisville, Kentucky. This black woman was shot dead by the police in a raid on her home.
