Survivors

If you are reading this it is because you are still alive, that makes you a survivor of the adversities that we went through as a population for nine months.

The Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities are dates where emotional health manifests according to the mood. Some feel nostalgic, sad and even go through depressive episodes, for others it is joy, good spirits, festive spirit and motivation.

These two scenarios show us the ability of our mind to focus on the positive or the negative in each situation. When our focus of attention is concentrated on adversity and problems, it creates a mental image of pain and suffering, on the contrary when it focuses on the positive it allows us to see possible solutions and gives us emotional growth, therefore our emotions are governed according to the quality of our thoughts.

For us to be able to rescue the good and positive of this year, it is enough to be aware and become aware of our own being and our closest environment.

—If you suffered the loss of a loved one, you will understand that the learning it leaves behind is the value of life.

—If you lost a job, it shows you the pattern of finding your internal entrepreneurial strengths and new skills to develop in other work areas.

—The fear that Covid-19 brought with it showed us the value of health, self-care and care for others.

—The scourge of two hurricanes by our country, awakened our capacity for empathy and solidarity with suffering families, as well as compassion for those most in need.

—In our homes we gain time to dedicate to our families and we discover what we must improve.

—We learned the importance of affection, a hug can do us so much emotional well-being.

—Without forgetting the challenge to technological learning, when we were faced with the only alternative for communication, telework and online education, we learned to give positive and appropriate use to technological means.

So dear reader, you can make a list of how many positive things this year is leaving you and being a survivor makes you a winner of adversity.

Observing the good and positive in each situation is a stimulus of joy and motivation, so let’s use this tool to be agents of change and spread this encouraging spirit to our environments for a new year.
