Surviving Hawaii Wildfires: Brothers Rescued After Fleeing to the Pacific Ocean

Nineteen-year-old Noah Tomkinson and his thirteen-year-old brother Mailo decided to leave their home in Lahaina with their mother because the wildfires were moving too fast towards their home.

At first, the family fled in a car, but then decided to change their escape tactics because the traffic jams prevented them from moving forward. All three immediately realized that they had to stay close to the water because things could get really bad very quickly.

Accordingly, the trio decided to jump into the ocean because it was too dangerous to be on the street. But their mother got too cold in the water, so the two boys tried to warm her by hugging her tightly.

“If we were separated, we probably wouldn’t have survived,” Noah recalls.

After the incident, Noah started a “GoFundMe” donation page so that the family could receive the necessary funds to rebuild the house that was destroyed by fire.

As previously reported, large forest fires have been raging in Hawaii for several days, in which 93 people have lost their lives.
