Twenty expedition members have traveled to Malaysia for the adventure of a lifetime. They will be in the 25th edition of Expedition Robinson must survive on a deserted island. In the first episode, the battle immediately starts and team blue wins the very first test: “That feeling, that team and that euphoria. Then you are hugging each other as if you have known each other for years. That is really great,” says Maxim Froger.
Once they have arrived at Kamp Noord and Kamp Zuid, the teams immediately start looking for a place to sleep, until they receive an unexpected visitor. “A boat is coming,” says Frits Wester, surprised. Art Rooijakkers and Nicolette Kluijver moor at the camps with a tube and a letter. “I have mail for you,” says Art. The expedition members immediately have a dark brown suspicion. “We really didn’t expect him now and he probably won’t come with a basket of fruit,” says Krista Arriëns jokingly.
Krista turns out to be absolutely right about that. Both camps have to designate two people who have to make an important choice for the team: “This island is too small for ten expedition members. Therefore, one person will have to leave the camp.” In Camp South Krista and Willem Voogd are given this impossible task and in Camp North it is Chelsey Weimar and Frits. “This is really impossible”, Krista sighs.
After ten minutes the choices are made and Eva Simons and Iris van Lunenburg are sent away. “Oh no, I really hate it,” says Chelsey when she brings the bad news to Eva. “They choose me and I’m in shock,” Eva looks back with tears in her eyes. This decision also comes completely unexpected for Iris: “I just really feel bad. I didn’t even sleep one night on the island and now I’m just the first to leave at Expedition Robinson.”
In addition to the injustice that the ladies feel, Eva also reveals a childhood trauma: “I’ve always been kind of an outsider, even at school,” she says crying. This gives Eva the feeling that she cannot be herself and has to pretend to be different: “But I can’t. I just have to be able to be myself. That is of course very painful if you are not accepted for who you are.”
