Surveys meant, the reality is elsewhere. The fight for the White House will be close

The United States is now counting the ballots, and the results, which can be talked about on Wednesday around six in the morning, are only partial and preliminary. So far, however, it seems to be a much tighter fight than surveys predicted.

In many ways, the gradual publication of results reflects the shadow of the 2016 presidential election. Their favorite, Democrat Hillary Clinton, lost to the current tenant of the Oval Office – winning more votes overall but fewer voters.

We monitor the course of the US elections online:

Surveys this year and four years ago

Even this year, election polls predicted that Donald Trump would not succeed in the fight for (this time) re-election. For example, on the British public BBC polls from November 2, they gave the Democratic candidate Biden an 8% lead. In 2016, Clinton led the survey by about four percentage points.

Interim results are now changing virtually from minute to minute, and most states have not yet counted one hundred percent of the vote. Most talk now is about one big victory for each party. About Florida, which Trump won, and Arizona, where Biden won.

Florida pro Trumpa

One of the so-called swing states, on which much attention has been focused, is Florida. Donald Trump won there, narrowly – he won just over 51 percent (editor’s note: still not counted 100 percent of the vote), and thus won valuable 29 voters.

It was in Florida that there was talk of a scenario from 2016. Even then, Donald Trump narrowly defeated Hillary Clinton. According to ongoing analyzes, it is again this year Florida, which may become one of the main decisive states. No Republican candidate has yet won the election without Florida’s support.

But if we compare the result with the pre-election polls, they gave Biden only a three-point lead. A very close duel was expected and the loss of Florida for Biden is not a “total” surprise.

The US elections are also being watched in Taiwan.

Arizona for Biden

On the other hand, a certain surprise appeared in Arizona in the first few hours of the counting. According to preliminary results, Democrat Joe Biden wins there with the gain of eleven voters.

Watch the continuous counting of votes:

This is not a huge surprise, pre-election polls, although very narrow, predicted Biden’s success. In 2016, however, Donald Trump won relatively convincingly. Before this year’s election, however, Biden led by about six percentage points, similar to, for example, in Pennsylvania, where we cannot even talk about approximate results yet.
