Almost every seventh company in Germany paid a million dollars in ransom, for example to regain data encrypted by malware.
This is shown by the survey results of the “CISO Study” 2023 by the IT security provider Slunk from the USA, which the network equipment provider Cisco recently took over as part of a billion-dollar deal.
According to the survey, 19 percent of all affected companies in Germany paid ransom directly, 35 percent through cyber insurance and almost a third (27 percent) through a negotiator.
Almost one in seven companies in Germany paid a million dollars (the equivalent of around 945,000 euros) in ransom, for example to get back data that had been encrypted by fraudsters using blackmail software (also known as ransomware). This is shown by the survey results of the “CISO Study” 2023 by the IT security provider Slunk from the USA, which the network equipment provider Cisco bought just a few weeks ago as part of a billion-dollar deal.
According to the survey, 19 percent of all companies in Germany affected by cybercrime paid ransom directly, 35 percent through cyber insurance and almost a third (27 percent) through a third party, i.e. a negotiator. 350 security managers, such as Chief Information Security Officers (CISO), in companies from ten countries were surveyed. These include Germany, but also Great Britain, France, USA, India, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Singapore.
