ROMA – On the occasion of the International Solidarity Legacy Daythe institute Walden Lab-Eumetra has made for the Solidarity Will Committee the research “Values, donations and solidarity bequests” to investigate the universe of values of Italians and the evolution of solidarity. The family is confirmed as the great bulwark of Italians: in addition to being the first among inherited values (for 25% of the sample), it is in first place in the role of protection and promotion of the values themselves for 75% of Italians, who consider it the subject that is most committed to this mission. The Third Sector also seems to enjoy great trust: for Italians it is in fact the first actor (77%) concretely committed to building a better society.
Solidarity bequests. With respect to charitable bequests, the trend of increased awareness of the instrument continues (+12% in 5 years). In concrete terms, there are 6.3 million Italians (24% of those over 50) who have a positive orientation towards charitable bequests: the percentage of those who have already foreseen it in their will is stable at 2%, while the percentage of those who declare themselves inclined to take it into consideration is growing (from 19% to 22%).
Honesty, family, rules, generosity. Honesty, first of all; then respect for others; then, family, followed by respect for the rules and a spirit of generosity. These are the main values that Italians say they have received from their family and consider to be central to their lives. When asked to choose one that prevails over all, Italians indicate family in first place (25%), followed closely by honesty (23%). And, regardless of which is the most important, almost all Italians (97%) agree that there are certainly values passed down from their family that have proven to be fundamental in their lives.
The other values acquired beyond the family. When we talk about values discovered on the basis of personal experience, over the course of one’s life, new sensibilities emerge, a trace of the most recent cultural change: gender equality and respect for nature are both at 23%, followed by culture and knowledge (22%), friendship and respect for diversity (both at 19%).
The presentation of the data. This picture emerges from the survey carried out on a representative sample of Italians aged 25+ (about 46.5 million, according to Istat data). The results of the research were presented today in Rome, during the event entitled “Solidarity Legacy – A Bridge Between Past and Future” organized by the Solidarity Will Committeewith the patronage and collaboration of the National Council of Notarieson the occasion of the International Solidarity Legacy Daywhich will be held on September 13th.
