Panama City/Prensa Latina
The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (Imhpa) today issued a surveillance notice due to high temperatures and wind chill in at least eight of 10 provinces.
According to the official statement, the measure is established until Wednesday, April 3 in the territories of Chiriquí, the center and south of Veraguas, Los Santos, Herrera, Coclé, Panamá Oeste, Panamá, Darién and the Emberá region.
The report states that the transition season from dry to rainy continues, and another period with quite warm conditions throughout the country, due to a high incidence of solar radiation causing high temperatures.
The Imhpa expects thermometers to rise to 31 and 38 degrees Celsius, with air humidity varying from 67 to 84 percent, which will generate a thermal sensation of 34 to 45 degrees Celsius.
In this sense, the institution warned that these conditions will reach the categories between extreme caution and caution due to danger, in addition to generating the possibility of sunstroke, cramps and heat stroke, due to prolonged exposure to the sun or due to some physical activity.
For their part, health authorities reiterated that in the face of these warnings, people should hydrate well, protect themselves with hats, wear clothing that covers the skin well and use sun protection products.
The Imhpa also issued a surveillance notice for generation and spread of fires, valid until next Tuesday.
In this report, it is noted that atmospheric conditions (winds, temperatures, humidity, and solar radiation), dry soil and other factors favor conditions for greater spread of fires, whether of plant mass or structures.
