This is the first response to the investigation by the Supreme Federal Court against a conspiracy that emerged in 2022 during his administration to attempt a coup d’état and ignore the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the general elections of that year.
On Sunday, a colonel of the Brazilian Army, Bernardo Romão Corrêa Neto, who was in the United States since 2022 on an official mission and investigated for the antidemocratic acts of January 2023, was arrested by the Federal Police during his return to Brazil.
According to the investigations, to which the Brasil Agency had access, the soldier was involved in the preparation of the meeting and selection of soldiers trained in the ‘Kids Pretos’ Special Forces course to act in an attempted coup d’état.

The president of the Liberal Party (PL) -Bolsonaro’s formation-, Valdemar Costa Netowas arrested in the same operation during a raid on his residence, but on charges of illegal carrying of a firearm and possession of a small gold stone apparently the product of illegal mining.
However, Magistrate De Moraes granted conditional release to the 74-year-old politician on Saturday. EFE
