The video of the man running with the child in his arms to deposit it next to Our Lady of Mount Carmel was shot last weekend at the Carmen Sanctuary in Los Realejos, on the Spanish island of Tenerife, and shared on Twitter by user @niporwifi. During the short but intense run, the child staggers while his father carries him. Finally the man abruptly achieves his aim, storming the altar and making it tremble with his leap, and finally leaving the child beside the statue of the Virgin to the mocking of the church staff, who stare at him in disbelief.
What happened after
The continuation of the singular episode is told in the Diario de Avisos de Tenerife. The father goes back to pick up his son and is asked to leave the church, but not before kneeling in the center of the nave and apologizing for his intrusion. The gesture was greeted by an ovation from the faithful.
