Scientists at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have revealed some of the strangest things they’ve ever seen underwater, including 3 mysterious creatures they’re still confused about.
And the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration posted a tweet on Twitter, which included “3 marine mysteries,” commenting on it by saying, “Our ocean covers 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, yet we’ve uncovered a tiny fraction of what’s in its depth”.
“So there’s no shock when we encounter, so often, things that baffle even the most seasoned scientists.”
The images come from previous expeditions of the ‘Okeanos Explorer’, operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a research vessel equipped to survey the depths of the ocean with a remote-controlled vehicle, according to a report published by ‘Sky News’.
The first picture shows a bright red coral with a “strange green stringy organism” attached to it. The organism resembles spaghetti pasta and was found at a depth of 520 meters in the Pacific Ocean.
Plants aren’t usually found at this depth due to lack of light, so the team of scientists speculated that it could be some kind of sponge, or perhaps a type of algae that has become embedded in coral reefs.
And the second picture belongs to a group of “fragile spherical and feathery objects, which seem to be all in a bunch.”
It was found at a depth of 2,750 meters along the Fina Nagu volcanic range in the Pacific Ocean.
