Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? No, when it comes to the so-called “GOAT”, “Leo” star Joseph Vijay is ahead – at least that’s what his new action film “The Greatest Of All Time” suggests. Now new on Netflix.
GOAT has become an extremely common term in recent years, especially among football fans. After all, they never tire of debating who is really the one Greatest Of All Time is – Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?
However, when it comes to the greatest in Indian film history, Shah Rukh Khan is probably the untouched number 1. But maybe that will change sooner or later? In any case, there are enough candidates who are currently shooting across the screens of the world on a regular basis in order to take over the position of the ultimate action hero from the “Pathaan” and “Jawan” star. For example, Joseph Vijay, whose current blockbusters often end up on Netflix in this country. Same this weekend:
After “Beast” (2022) and “Leo” (2023) is with “The GOAT” aka “The Greatest Of All Time“ the latest hit from superstar Joseph Vijay available exclusively on Netflix!
The action thriller with a running time of a whopping three hours was only released in Indian cinemas on September 5, 2024 – and is now available as a streaming subscription just a month later. With production costs in excess of $47 million, “The Greatest Of All Time” lives up to its title (at least somewhat) in that the film is considered an absolutely mammoth production by Indian standards.
But is the gigantic investment worth it from the viewer’s point of view? Fans of Indian action spectacles like “RRR” and Co. can now see this for themselves. As is often the case: there is no German soundtrack. Instead, you have to make do with the original version in Tamil and English subtitles.
This is what awaits you in “The Greatest Of All Time”
In terms of content, director Venkat Prabhu (“Maanaadu”) is following well-known paths with his latest film – or so it seems. At the center of the story is the negotiator and spy Gandhi (Joseph Vijay), who specializes in taking hostages and is in the service of an anti-terror unit – and one day his past catches up with him…
Will the whole thing end up going according to plan or will there be one or two surprises in store? If you are familiar with Indian (action) cinema, you can definitely look forward to seeing some other familiar faces – including Jayaram, known from the “Ponniyin Selvan” saga, Vaibhav Reddy (“Mankatha”) and Sneha ( “The Great Father”) and Trisha Krishnan (“96”).
Do you think that Indian larger-than-life blockbusters especially belong on the big screen? Then you should put “Devara: Part 1” with “RRR” audience favorite NT Rama Rao Jr. straight on your watchlist. The film opened in German cinemas on September 27th – and was even able to secure the number 1 position in the worldwide (!) cinema charts at the start:
World’s number 1 cinema: Almost 3-hour action epic even beats the latest sci-fi hits from Hollywood!
