At the end of a passionate debate there was a secret vote – and it brought about a turning point. After it had previously looked like only the SPD and Greens would vote in favor of the boiler house, the result turned the debate on its head: with a majority of 28 to 26 votes, the council decided to continue pursuing the boiler house project. This means: There must also have been dissidents in the camp of the Kesselhaus opponents. Before the vote, Mayor Meyer complained that the administration was being accused of trying to “trick out” a decision for each boiler house using false, namely inflated, figures for the renovation of the Seidenweberhaus. And he made an astonishing comparison that made the estimated renovation costs for the silk weaver’s house seem plausible.
