Hard hearing
In a new interview with GQ magazine, Cameron says DiCaprio’s audition process was anything but easy. according to Variety DiCaprio allegedly refused to audition for the role on camera with Winslet.

– You have to audition or you won’t get the part.
The true love story in “Titanic”
DiCaprio is said to have been under the impression that he would only meet Winslet one more time, before being told they would audition on camera.
The actor told Cameron he would not audition – however, the pipe took on a different sound when he realized he would lose the role.
– Okay, he’s the right man
DiCaprio is said to have asked Cameron if he really wouldn’t have gotten the role if he hadn’t auditioned.
– Yes, come on then. This is a huge film that will take up two years of my life, and you will be working on five other projects while I do post-production. So I won’t screw it up by hiring the wrong man for the role. So you have to audition or you won’t get the part, Cameron replied.
He gives mom an incredibly expensive gift
With his tail between his legs, DiCaprio is said to have decided to audition anyway. Cameron describes him as a negative actor, who still had a great audition.
– He’s become Jack. Kate lit up and they acted out the scene. Dark clouds parted and the sun’s rays set and shone on Jack. I thought, ‘Okay, he’s the man,'” Cameron said.
