This news comes as a surprise, especially considering his comeback last weekend!

WWE’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is currently not scheduled for WrestleMania 41 next spring, according to the usually well-informed reporter Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported. The seemingly impending match between the icon and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes cannot therefore be the current plan for the mega event in Las Vegas – which raises new questions about Johnson’s appearance at the Bad Blood event last Saturday. The Rock reportedly canceled WWE for WrestleMania
“He won’t be at Mania. “He has already communicated that he cannot do this match,” Meltzer quotes an unnamed source – and reports internal confusion as to why Johnson showed up again anyway. “Different people were given different reasons” for this.

Apparently only a few people are privy to what exactly is going on with The Rock – and the level of secrecy also raises the question of whether the alleged WrestleMania cancellation may just be a feint.
Meltzer reports, however, that Johnson has probably been caught up again by the issue that is said to have caused his planned match at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 against Roman Reigns to collapse: his busy Hollywood schedule and his demands, only then for a big one Match to get into the ring if he has enough training and preparation time.
This year the duel was supposed to be rescheduled – however, a fan revolt in favor of Rhodes ensured that the “American Nightmare” called for the then champ Reigns instead. The Rock was involved differently: He teamed up with Reigns on the first day of WrestleMania and defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match.
Rock’s pinfall against Rhodes and his failed attempt to stop him from winning the title the next day (thwarted by legend The Undertaker) planted the seeds for a later duel – or three-way match – with Reigns. The next hint of this came at Bad Blood when Rock gave Rhodes and Reigns dirty looks after the two defeated the new Bloodline around Solo Sikoa as a tag team.

Final clarity probably by the beginning of 2025
If Johnson is actually unavailable at WrestleMania, a rematch against Reigns seems like the logical alternative. A conceivable date for Rhodes vs. Rock would be SummerSlam 2025, for example – which will take place on August 2nd and 3rd in the NFL Stadium in New York, for the first time like Mania and will be spread over two days.
However – Meltzer also writes this explicitly – Johnson could also change his plans regarding WrestleMania. Final clarity should once again prevail around the Royal Rumble on February 1st, the event at which Mania is being built.
Rhodes is currently involved in a feud with Kevin Owens, who turned against him after Bad Blood and who targeted him again on the TV show Friday Night SmackDown that night – and also crossed paths with previously shared ally Randy Orton got into trouble.
