The first big news of the WNBA offseason comes from Los Angeles and is causing a stir: longtime coach Curt Miller and the Los Angeles Sparks are going their separate ways. The team announced this on Tuesday. Miller, who has been the franchise’s coach for the past two years, was originally hired to lead the team’s rebuilding after the organization lost significant resources and talent under former general manager Derek Fisher. But now Miller will no longer be part of the coming era in LA. For Miller, this was already his second position as head coach in the WNBA. Before that, he had coached the Connecticut Sun for seven years and led the team in six consecutive postseasons. His move to the Sparks in 2023 brought the team instant credibility. However, Los Angeles narrowly missed the playoffs in its first season under Miller’s leadership due to numerous injuries. 2024 was also marked by injuries, and the Sparks experienced their worst season in franchise history. Miller leaves the team with a record of 25 wins and 55 losses after two seasons. “I am proud of the culture we have created in our locker room and firmly believe the foundation has been laid for a successful future,” Miller said in the team’s public statement. “The team is now well positioned for success and I wish the players all the best for the 2025 season.”
