Football players from Spain, Scotland and Turkey advanced to next year’s European Championship in Germany. The Spaniards won Sunday’s qualifying match 1:0 on the soil of Norway, and the northerners cannot catch up with their opponent or the Scots in points in the A-group.

The only goal for the Spaniards was scored by Gavi in the 49th minute, who got the ball behind goalkeeper Örjan Nyland after two unsuccessful attempts by his teammates. The goal was still checked by VAR for a possible offside, but in the end it was valid and proved to be key for advancing to the eighth EURO in a row.

The Scots suffered their first defeat in the qualification on Thursday, precisely on the soil of Spain (0:2), and are thus in second place. They will appear at the EC for the fourth time in history.

The football players of Turkey won the promotion as well. In Sunday’s match, they won 4:0 over Latvia, and only Wales can overtake them in Group I. Together with the Croatians, the latter can equal the Turks in terms of points, but it is Turkey that has the highest number of points (6) in the mutual matches of this trio.

The Welsh and the Croatians, who lost 1-2 in Cardiff on Sunday, have four each, but the Balkans are no longer scheduled to face either of the two teams. The Turks advanced to the sixth European Championship in history.

The home team built a two-goal lead within less than half an hour – Nicolae Stanciu scored the winner and Ianis Hagi added another moments later.
