A surprising result occurred in the trial match between Germany vs Japan. Appear as host, German suffered a crushing defeat from Japan with a score of 1-4.
The Germany vs Japan match took place at the Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg, on Sunday (10/9/2023) early morning WIB. Die Mannschaft fell behind to Junya Ito’s goal before equalizing the score through Leroy Sane.
Japan took the lead again at halftime through Ayase Ueda’s goal. After restarting, Samurai Blue adding two other goals in the final minutes from Takuma Asano and Ao Tanaka.

Japan surprised Germany after Junya Ito opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Yukinari Sugawara ended the attack into the central area with a cross from the right. Ito responded with a flick of his right foot into the top corner of the German goal. Japan leads 1-0.
Germany scored a goal back less than 10 minutes later. Leroy Sane equalized the score at 1-1. Ilkay Guendogan’s collaboration with Florian Wirtz was completed by Sane with a low left foot kick.
Japan immediately responded back. Ayase Ueda restored Japan’s lead to 2-1 in the 22nd minute.
Ito sent a cross from the right wing which was then cheated by Ueda from close range. The ball hit Antonio Ruediger’s foot and then turned, making Marc-Andre ter Stegen stop walking before it nestled in the German goal.
A blunder at the end of the first half meant Germany almost conceded. Luckily Ter Stegen made a brilliant save.
Nicolas Schlotterbeck’s pass to Ruediger was cut off by Ueda. He immediately dribbled the ball forward to be in a one-on-one situation with Ter Stegen, but his shot was blocked.
Just moments after kickoff in the second half, Germany almost conceded again. Ter Stegen’s pass actually went to Junya Ito on the edge of the penalty box. Ito made a stab before curling a shot into the top corner of the goal, but the ball went wide.
After that Ter Stegen parried Ueda’s kick. Kaoru Mitoma caught the rebound even though his shot narrowly deviated from the post near the German goal.
Japanese counterattacks troubled Germany. Takuma Asano led the attack from the left side then sent in a cross. Ter Stegen blocked, Mitoma passed the rebound and was secured again.
Japan secured victory with two goals at the end of the game. Asano scored Japan’s third goal to make it 3-1.
Robin Gosens failed to clear the ball so it was snatched by Takefusa Kubo and pushed forward. In a 2 against 1 situation, Kubo passed the ball to Asano, who easily outwitted Ter Stegen with a low kick.
In injury time, Ter Stegen must collect the ball from his own goal for the fourth time. Ao Tanaka carved his name on the scoreboard at the same time making the score 4-1.
Starting from a throw-in on the right, Asano’s pass to Kubo was followed up by an attack from the wing. Kubo sent a cross into the middle of the penalty area, then Tanaka finished with an accurate header.
