Weekly jobless claims fell last week in the United States, contrary to expectations, once again reflecting the strength of the American job market.
Registration numbers fell by 20,000 to 201,000 during the week of September 16, the Labor Department announced Thursday, and the previous week’s data was revised from 220,000 to 221,000.
Economists, conversely, expected an increase to 225,000.
Another closely followed data, the four-week moving average – which better reflects the underlying trend in the labor market – fell from 7,750 to 217,000.
