Surprised! Mas Minister Nadiem Denies Erasing Historical Map

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim was apparently furious and denied the growing issue related to the elimination of historical subjects. Nadiem said, there was no policy on eliminating history lessons in the national curriculum.

“I want to clarify a few things, because I am surprised, how quickly false information is spreading about historical subjects. I say there are no policies, regulations, or plans to eliminate history subjects in the national curriculum,” said Nadiem through the channel. YouTube belongs to the Ministry of Education and Culture (20/9/2020).

Nadiem explained, the Ministry of Education and Culture is conducting a study on curriculum simplification, but there is no elimination of history subjects.

“This issue came out because there was an internal presentation that came out to the public with one of the permutations of curriculum simplification. We have many, dozens of different versions that are currently going through FGDs and public trials. All do not necessarily mean that the permutations will be final. where various options are openly debated, “said Nadiem.

Curriculum simplification will not be made any time soon. It needs to be piloted in several schools, but not nationally.

“The simplification of the curriculum will not be carried out until 2020. In 2021, we will do prototyping at selected driving schools, and not on a national scale,” said Nadiem.

Nadiem conveyed that he wanted history lessons to be of interest to students. So, there needs to be an update in the educational curriculum.

“My mission as a minister is the opposite of what (the issue) arises, I want to make history a relevant thing for the younger generation, by using media that is interesting and relevant to our generation, in order to inspire them,” said Nadiem.

“The nationalist identity of a new generation can only be formed from a collective memory that awakens and inspires. Once again, I urge the public not to let this untrue information run wild,” said Nadiem.

It was previously known, an online petition appeared which raised the issue of history subjects for high school and equivalent. The petition on change.org on behalf of the Indonesian History Teachers Association (AGSI) entitled ‘Restoring the position of history subjects as mandatory subjects for all the nation’s children’ has received 10,473 signatures until Friday (18/9) night
