The third round of Italian Cup ends with a surprise: the Frosinone wins 2-1 at home Torino to extra time and goes through. After the goals in the 5th minute of Ibrahimovic for the Ciociari and in the 31st minute of Turn it off for the granata in regulation, the counterattack finished by Kaio Jorge and finalized in the 98th minute by Reinier. The picture of the round of 16 is completed: Di Francesco will challenge the Napoli. Juric’s team, however, was defeated and contested.
THE MATCH
Lecce’s victory in the championship becomes only a parenthesis in Torino’s crisis, which also bids farewell to the Italian Cup by losing 2-1 at home to Frosinone, who achieve the feat. It was a start to forget for the Granata, because in the 5th minute the Ciociari were already in the lead thanks to Ibrahimovic’s right-footed shot into the corner, who made the most of a series of rebounds in the penalty area. The home team’s reaction is entrusted to Zapata, the most dangerous with a header blocked by Cerofolini, an attempted overhead kick and lots of acceleration. One of these causes the corner that leads to the equalizer, which comes thanks to Zima’s header. Before the break, the visiting goalkeeper had to save on Sanabria to avoid a comeback already in the first half.
In the second half, Di Francesco’s team resisted thanks also to Cerofolini’s saves again on the Paraguayan, on Pellegri and in the final on Vlasic, while Soulé, who came on midway through the second half, scared the hosts. However, the 1-1 was inevitable: so we went to extra time which immediately led to an episode, the penalty initially awarded to Torino for a foul on Seck and then removed, after on-field review, by Fourneau. In the 98th minute, here is the second advantage for the guests: Kaio Jorge, who came on in place of Cheddira, launches Reinier who only makes no mistake in front of Gemello for Frosinone’s 2-1. There is also bad luck for Juric’s men, because in the 105th minute Karamoh hits the top corner with a powerful right-footed shot from the edge. In the second extra time, Kaio Jorge devours the trio by effectively hitting Gemello, but the result does not change: Frosinone achieves the feat and earns the round of 16 against Napoli. Defeat and protest, however, for Torino.
