Weekly claims for unemployment benefits are on the rise in the United States, contradicting analysts’ expectations and showing that the labor market remains feverish, according to data released Thursday by the Department of Labor.

Between June 27 and July 3, 373,000 people applied for unemployment benefits, an increase of 2,000 compared to the previous week, the data of which have also been revised up (+7,000). Analysts expected a further drop to 350,000 requests.
