Since the unmasking of Alina (21) in April, the makers of ‘De mol’ have crawled underground again. The whole time it remained silent around a new season, and whether that was possible in corona times. Now Gilles De Coster (39) reveals that the sequel is coming. In fact, the new series is already canned.

“Happy and relieved.” This is how presenter Gilles De Coster feels, now that he can finally come out with news about De mol. The ninth season has been successfully completed and will be on TV in the spring. “Lately I got an incredible number of questions about whether it would work out in these strange times,” says De Coster. Well, the answer is yes. We just got back from recording. Recordings with lots of security measures. With bubbles, social distance, mouth masks and tests. Certainly not obvious, but we succeeded. ”

The recording crew worked according to a safety protocol and also took a corona manager with them. He was responsible for adhering to the agreements and ensured that all candidates and crew adhered to their strictly separate bubbles. Whether the recordings took place at home or abroad, De Coster does not want to say yet. The names of the candidates will also remain secret for the time being. This year, they were selected from nearly 30,000 interested parties, 10,000 of whom were accepted and 200 people were allowed an interview with the makers. In the midst of the corona crisis, the popularity of De mol thus appears to be increasing: in 2019, around 14,000 candidates registered.
