The spider sense of millions of people around the world is raving about the news that there is a new Spider-Man movie in the works – but without Spider-Man.
We don’t really know if Spider-Man will appear in the movie or not. But we do know that will not be the protagonist.
According to the Deadline blog, Booksmart Director Olivia Wilde has signed a deal to develop a new film about a superheroine of the Marvel universe – for Sony. At the news, Wilde quickly responded on Twitter with the emoji of a spider.

In other words: the protagonist will be Spider-Woman, who in the comics has Jessica Drew behind the mask. Although it could also be Spider-Gwen, the comic book character who already debuted in the excellent Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in 2018. We don’t know because the movie is now in development, which means there is nothing fixed yet. And, in fact, there won’t be a movie in theaters for a few years.
He Tweet de la Wilde already has 88,000 likes at the time of publication of these lines, with other actors applauding, such as Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) or Hugh Laurie (House). We don’t know if this means if it means that they will be in the film or if they are simply Wilde’s colleagues.
By the way, in the thousands of comments on the tweet, there is a name that fans seem to be asking to play Spider-Woman or Spider-Gwen: actress Daisy Ridley, daughter of Palpatine, Jedi and protagonist of the third trilogy from Star Wars.
Tangled in the spider web
Spider-Man mythology is all the rage, with Marvel and Sony planning projects around the particular wall-crawler universe. In preparation there is a secuela de Into the Spider-Verse due out in 2022, the second part of Venom 2, Morbius and Madame Webb, all of them movies in the making.
Spider-Man’s rebirth also extends to video games, with the appearance of spider-man in the PS5 version of Marvel’s Avengers and the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales para PS5, which promises an unprecedented level of detail and open world size.
The Spider-Woman movie is good news for the Marvel universe, which, until the release of Captain Marvel, did not have any female main characters to give a title to a film. In November, after delays due to the coronavirus, we will also see Black Widow, with Scarlette Johansson as the Black Widow.
