Surprise drop in manufacturing output in September

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Manufacturing output slowed unexpectedly in September in the United States as the continuing global semiconductor shortage weighed on auto production.

Manufacturing output fell 0.7% last month after falling 0.4% in August (revised), according to Federal Reserve data released on Monday.

Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a slight increase of 0.1%.
