Surprise! Bulgaria remembered Syria and…

Nine EU countries, including Bulgaria, have offered aid to Syria, which suffered from last week’s earthquakes, the European Commission announced today, quoted by BTA correspondent Nikolay Zhelyazkov.

In addition to our country, Austria, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania and Slovenia, as well as Norway, have also responded to the request.

The EU urgently sends winter tents, heating devices, blankets, water to Syria. Aid will be distributed in the government-controlled areas with the help of the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations, and in the rest – in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.

The EU is sending two aid coordination officials to Beirut today, the commission adds, noting that Syria initially received 3.5 million euros in humanitarian aid for the most urgent needs.

Among the respondents are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain, as well as Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. A total of 1,652 rescue dogs and 105 search dogs have been offered to the Turkish side. The Commission is channeling aid from 12 EU countries that have provided shelter funds, the announcement said.
