Surpost employees knock on vice president’s door again

Employees of the Suriname Post Company (Surpost) are tired of the situation at the company. According to them, no one has a listening ear for them. They don’t know where they stand. The group again went to the office of the vice president (VP) on Friday 30 July to express their displeasure.

Federal chairman Walther Uiterloo indicated during the conversation with VP Ronnie Brunswijk that the management of the company has applied a ‘no work, no pay’ principle for the days on which the staff was deliberating. As a result, a large part has received less than SRD 100 for this month.

The employees, along with their union chairman, had also gone to the Labor Inspectorate earlier this week to discuss the treatment they are receiving from Surpost’s director, Ravin Dahoe.

The meeting with the VP earlier this month did not yield the expected result, according to the federation chairman and employees. But they are convinced that Brunswijk will now be able to achieve a solution for them. If that does not happen, a complete shutdown of the company will follow after July 31.

Brunswijk promised the employees that he will take immediate steps. The VP will discuss the problem with the management of the postal company. In the meantime, the staff will have to resume work pending the result. After this, further discussions will be held about their collective labor agreement.
