Suriname Faces Increase in Dengue Cases, Urgent Measures Implemented by Public Health Service (BOG)

In Suriname, there is an increase in the number of dengue cases, especially type 3. This type of dengue was not present in Suriname for 21 years, making a large part of the population, especially young people under the age of 20, vulnerable.

The Public Health Service (BOG) has stepped up spraying activities to prevent the spread of the virus. A systematic approach is also being worked on, in which the sources of contamination are identified and tackled.

Society also has a role to play. People are called upon to clean up the possible breeding grounds of the dengue mosquito.
