Sanctions from a number of countries to world institutions after Russia attacking Ukraine is highlighted and compared with attitudes towards Israel in conflict with Palestine. There are a number of factors that are considered to be the trigger for this different attitude.
For your information, Russia launched a military operation against Ukraine since Thursday (24/2/2022). Various countries and world institutions have condemned and imposed sanctions on Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions include closing flight access for Russian airlines, freezing banking assets, refusing to broadcast Russian TV shows, and disqualifying the Russian team from sporting events. The various sanctions for Russia were then compared to social media users.
There are those who think that the state and institutions that have imposed sanctions on Russia have not done the same for Israel, which is in conflict with the Palestinians. Head of the Department of International Relations, FISIP UI, Asra Virgianita, explained the differences in attitudes towards Russia and Israel.
Asra initially explained that basically, the attitude of the world must be the same regarding countries in conflict, namely prioritizing peace. All conflicts, according to him, have the same degree.
“In my view, conflict, whatever it’s called, there is a humanitarian element in it that must be prioritized. As much as possible be avoided and we or the world must side with peace. Russia-Ukraine, Palestine-Israel, Saudi-Yemen, all are equal in my opinion ,” Asra told reporters, Wednesday (2/3/2022).
