Unions representing SUNY Downstate employees say that, to Before the mandate, the hospital was already experiencing staff problems and it has not done enough to retain it or fill the vacancies that have arisen during the pandemic. After the mandate went into effect this week, the hospital left out 5.5 of its workforce: 221 unvaccinated workers, out of its 3,980 employees.
