When it comes to achieving more volume on the face in the lips, cheeks or chin, beauty docs turn to hyaluronic acid. But it doesn’t stop there: Ever since the rumor began circulating two years ago that soccer star Ronaldo had used injections to increase his penis size, searches for the treatment have skyrocketed. Plastic surgeon Dr. explains what’s behind it and what you should pay attention to. med. Tatjana Lanaras.

Does hyaluronic acid work in the penis?

“You can definitely use hyaluronic acid to inject the penis,” explains the expert. “This especially helps to increase the diameter. The length cannot be influenced by this.” The expert also questions whether the popular filler is the best option for the male penis.

What’s the problem with hyaluronic acid?

“For a large organ like the penis, certain amounts of hyaluronic acid are of course required,” says Dr. Lanaras. This not only drives up the price of the treatment. “Hyaluronic acid breaks down at least partially after a certain period of time. The procedure usually has to be repeated after six to twelve months.”

That’s why surgical people often prefer their own fat to thicken the penis. The expert explains: “The advantage is that you can combine the procedure with an extension. It is achieved by cutting a special ligament at the base of the penis.” In addition, your own fat heals into the tissue – so the effect remains permanent. Anyone who has read carefully will already notice that this type of procedure requires an operation, which is associated with corresponding risks. Hyaluron, on the other hand, enters the tissue via syringe.

What are the risks of injections?

However, injections are not without risks. “The hyaluronic acid is applied to the subcutaneous fatty tissue along the entire length of the penis,” explains Dr. Lanaras. A doctor with a lot of experience is important because it is important to target the right area. “If you inject the acid too deeply, it can hit the erectile tissue in the organ, which fills with blood for an erection. If hyaluronic acid gets in here, complications can arise for the patient.”

Injections with hyaluronic acid also come with risks.

Caution is also advised around the glans: “The area is very well supplied with blood and is therefore sensitive.” In addition, the urethral exit is in the immediate vicinity. The doctor points out: “If you put too much hyaluronic acid into the glans, the urethra can be compressed – in the worst case, this leads to problems with urination.”

In addition, there are the usual risks associated with the injection of hyaluronic acid: “The development of hematomas, infections, hardening of fillers and contour disorders are possible. The best way to avoid them is to see trustworthy doctors for such procedures.” According to the surgeon, if the filler is inserted professionally and in the right layer, there should be no problems with erections.
