Surfing on the wave of medical technology and at the same time developing business in hospitality and tourism: interview with businessman Mārtiņš Sila

The company “Meditec” specializes in the development of information technology (IT) solutions for the Latvian medical industry and has grown significantly over more than twenty years, being one of the main players in the digitalisation process of the industry. The company’s co-founder Mārtiņš Sils together with his partner Māris Zvirgzdiņš also works in the hospitality business and spends his free time traveling the world on a motorcycle.

In a conversation with “Delfi Bizness”, Mārtiņš Sils talks about the establishment of “Meditec” while he was still a computer science student, looks at how the digitalisation of the medical industry has taken place, gives his assessment of how we look in Europe in this respect, talks about challenges in conquering export markets , as well as reveals that the company has taken a step beyond the field of medical technology.

Meditec’s business model is to work in a product-oriented way, with healthcare institutions leasing their products as services. Most of the company’s customers are state and municipal capital companies, including hospitals.

Speaking about the tourism business, Mārtiņš Sils says that together with a business partner he is currently developing a new project on the side of the Gauja in Strenči. Their Riga hotel “Divi rati” has withstood the Covid-19 pandemic, adapting the operation to the existing conditions, although the hotel rooms are currently needed by few, because its target customers – world travelers on motorcycles – now rarely travel through Latvia.
