Surface Duo: Data leaked to Microsoft’s dual-screen smartphone

The journalist Zac Bowden from the magazine Windows Central has some details about the hardware coming from microsoft Smartphone Surface Duo released. According to his own statements, he received the information from internal sources. Accordingly, the dual-screen device will have two 5.6-inch OLED screens in 4: 3 format, which have a resolution of 1,800 x 1,350 pixels. The panels are compatible with the Surface Pen, which also works with other Surface devices.

Job market

  1. Insurance Chamber of Bavaria, Munich
  2. Dataport, various locations (home office possible)

The smartphone is equipped with the Android 10 operating system. Microsoft plans to upgrade to Android 11 relatively quickly as soon as it becomes available. It is likely that the developers will make adjustments to make the GUI useful for two screens. Preinstalled applications should at least all be optimized for two screens and behave similarly to the one planned Windows 10X (hands-on) exhibit.

The Surface Duo is said to have the older ARM processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 get along. According to Bowden, this could be because the smartphone has been in development for a long time and the hardware specification will not change any further. However, the hardware could also ensure compatibility with software that had already been developed and would not set the price of the smartphone too high.

No wireless qi charging planned

The main memory is 6 GB in size and is supplemented by either 64 or 256 GB of mass storage. Windows Central does not mention whether a micro SD card reader is installed. The device is charged via USB Type-C. Current test prototypes have probably not integrated an inductive charging pad, which is often available with current smartphones. The battery is designed for 3,460 mAh, which should be enough for about a day and corresponds to devices like the Samsung Galaxy S10.

The smartphone will probably have an 11-megapixel camera sensor with a pixel size of 1.12 micrometers. Users can set the aperture to a maximum of f / 2.0. The phone is compatible with nano SIM cards. A 5G modem is not planned. Instead, the device uses LTE.

Windows Central and Microsoft have not yet announced a start date. However, applications for the device are to be developed in early June, which suggests a release in summer 2020. It is certain – like the specifications – but not.
