Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists circulated on social media, video clips from a speech delivered by Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in which he spoke about Islam before entering the month of Ramadan.
And the Secretary-General of the United Nations said in the video clip that the organization published on its official page on Twitter, Friday: “We are only days away from the beginning of Ramadan, more than a thousand years ago, and the message of peace, sympathy and compassion that Islam brought is an inspiration to people around the world.”
He continued, saying: “The word Islam itself is derived from the same root as the word peace, and when I held the position of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, I saw the generosity of Islamic countries that opened their doors to people who were forced to flee their homes at a time when many other countries closed their borders.”
