Surabaya Mayor and PKK Mobilization Team Inspect Second Round of National Polio Immunization Sub Week

Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi together with Chair of the Surabaya City PKK Mobilization Team (TP) Rini Indriyani inspected the implementation of the second round of the National Immunization Sub Week (PIN) for Polio at Almanar Kindergarten and Elementary School, Jalan Pakal Madya No.3, Tuesday (20/2/2024) . In the second round of implementation of the Polio Sub PIN, he targets that the acceleration of the Polio Sub PIN can be completed 100 percent on the third day, Wednesday (21/2/2024).

Mayor Eri said that the Polio Sub PIN is important for children aged 0-8 years and less than one day in the city of Surabaya. Because, if the Polio immunization is too late, the child will experience paralysis.

“Because if you have been infected with this type of Polio (VDPV2), you can immediately be paralyzed, so together with all stakeholders in the city of Surabaya, starting from kindergarten teachers, PAUD teachers, elementary school teachers, to officers in all sub-districts, 100 percent will be achieved,” said Mayor Eri.

The former Head of the Surabaya City Planning and Development Agency (Bappeko) said that the implementation of the Polio Sub PIN on the first day yesterday (19/2/2024), had reached the target of 78 percent as of 16.38 WIB. He ensured that Sub PIN Polio activities would continue to be carried out so that coverage of 329,616 children aged 0-8 years less than one day was achieved in full.

“We actually carry out sweeping, not only at schools, we also go down to RW Halls, also to houses. “So, if it turns out that all of Suroboyo’s areks have been (immunized), there are those left behind who are from outside Surabaya, suddenly someone who has entered Surabaya has moved, we will prepare them,” he explained.

He added, the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) through the Surabaya City Health Service (Dinkes) also carried out door to door in public places (TTU). Such as in malls, train stations, ports, terminals, malls and daycares.

“So we hope we can target all of them. Because I hope to all parents, let’s protect their sons and daughters with this Polio PIN, everyone can come, can join. “Because this is in the interests of our children and grandchildren to become leaders and become healthy children in the future,” he hoped.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Surabaya City Health Service (Dinkes), Nanik Sukristina, said that the second round of Sub PIN Polio will target 329,616 children aged 0-8 years less one day. The target is the same as during the first round of Sub PIN Polio implementation.

As in the first round, Sub PIN Polio this time uses the novel Oral Polio Vaccine type 2 (n0PV2) immunization vaccine. One vial of n0PV2 will be given to 50 children. Each child will get two drops in each round.

Nanik explained that the n0PV2 vaccine was only used in the implementation of Sub PIN in the context of dealing with the type 2 Polio outbreak. “Implementation will start from 19-25 February 2024,” said Nanik.

Nanik added that the second round of Polio Sub PIN continues to be maximized, the aim is to speed up the termination of the VDPV2 Polio outbreak transmission. “Various efforts have been made massively, together with sub-districts, sub-districts, TP PKK, KSH, RT/RW and the academic community involved in the Surabaya City Polio Sub PIN team,” he concluded.
