SURABAYA (Lenteratoday) -Surabaya City Health Office appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) during the rainy season. This appeal was conveyed to the Lurah and Camat through a Circular Letter (SE) to be forwarded to the community. The Circular Letter dated January 13 2023 was signed directly by the Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina.
“In the framework of Prevention and Control of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (P2P-DBD) in the city of Surabaya, we convey to raise awareness of the potential increase in DHF cases which usually occur in the rainy season,” said Nanik Sukristina, Monday (16/1/2023) .
Given the increase in cases in 2022 compared to 2021, the Surabaya Health Office also asked the Lurah and Camat to mobilize the community and members in each work area to increase their awareness of DHF by doing a number of things.
First, optimizing the role of the Great Surabaya Cadre (KSH) as Coordinator for the Implementation of Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN). Namely, by ensuring that there are no larvae in the Aedes Sp mosquito breeding sites in each work area.
“Second, ensuring community participation in the implementation of the eradication of mosquito nests by appointing a larva monitoring officer (Jumantik) in the Jumantik One House One Movement (61R1J) and ensuring that no larvae are found in their homes,” he explained.

“Then, tightly close water storage containers such as jars, reservoirs, drums and others. And the last is utilizing or recycling used goods that can hold water,” he explained.

Among other things, changing the water in flower vases, bird drinkers or other similar places once a week. Also, repair drains and gutters that are clogged or not smooth.
“Next, cover the holes in pieces of bamboo or trees, etc. with soil and so on. As well as, sprinkling larvicidal larvae killer powder, such as in places that are difficult to drain or in areas where water is scarce,” he explained.
The Surabaya Health Office also appealed to the public to install wire screens on the windows and doors of their homes as an effort to prevent dengue fever. Also, avoid the habit of hanging clothes in the room and seek adequate lighting and room ventilation. This includes using mosquito nets while sleeping and using drugs that can prevent mosquito bites, such as lotions and sprays.
Communities are encouraged to plant plants that mosquitoes don’t like, such as lemon grass, lavender, rosemary in the environment around offices or residential areas. And finally, the community is also invited to clean up the environment and mosquito nests. “Immediately report if there is a family or community affected by DHF to the nearest Health Center,” explained Nanik.
