Surabaya Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Cases Spike in 2024

SURABAYAPAGI.COM, Situbondo – The Situbondo District Health Service recorded that the number of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) cases at the beginning of 2024 reached 40 cases spread across a number of sub-districts.

Head of the Situbondo District Health Service, Sandy Hendrayono, said that 40 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever due to bites from the Aedes aegypti mosquito occurred in the period 1-23 January 2024.

“Indeed, there has been an increase in cases of dengue fever in every sub-district during the rainy season this year,” he said in Situbondo, Thursday (25/1).

He said that dozens of cases of dengue fever were spread across a number of sub-districts, and in each sub-district, between five and six cases of residents were infected with the mosquito virus.

According to Sandy, there are several sub-districts with a significant increase in dengue hemorrhagic fever cases, namely Situbondo, Panarukan, Besuki, Mlandingan, Asembagus and Banyuputih sub-districts.

“Dengue fever cases are spread across all sub-districts, but there are sub-districts where the increase in cases is quite high,” he said.

Sandy said that cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever could continue to increase as the rainy season enters, because the Aedes aegypti mosquito reproduces very quickly.

“The dengue fever cycle appears during the rainy season, because there is a lot of standing water from leftover rainwater which has the potential for mosquitoes to lay eggs and breed. Therefore, we ask the public to do 3M Plus, namely draining, covering, burying and abatement,” he said .

People are expected to drain their bathrooms at least once every three days, covering used cans or anything else that could become a place for standing water.

It is better to bury all used items that have the potential to become puddles of water and mosquito nests, then put abate in the bathroom water tank to kill mosquito larvae. St-01/ham
