Surabaya City Exceeds Polio Vaccination Target with 103.64% Success Rate

Surabaya-The Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) succeeded in reaching 341,612 children aged 0-7 years or 8 years in less than a day, during the first round of the National Immunization Sub Week (SUB PIN) for Polio. This figure exceeds the previously determined target, namely 309,920 children.

Head of the Surabaya City Health Service (Dinkes), Nanik Sukristina, said that as of January 22 2024, the achievement of the Polio Sub PIN in the first round exceeded the target of 100 percent. “At 16.33 WIB, there were 341,612 or 103.64 percent of children immunized,” said Nanik, Wednesday (24/1/2024).

Nanik explained that during the implementation of Sub PIN Polio yesterday there were no significant obstacles. According to him, public awareness of the importance of immunizing children is very good. Even so, there are still some residents who are reluctant to have their children immunized.

The good level of awareness of parents regarding the importance of immunization cannot be separated from the socialization carried out by the previous city government. Whether it’s outreach through social media, flyers, posters, video screenings, to the sound of Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi’s appeals in strategic places. “That way, these obstacles can be minimized,” he said.

This achievement, which exceeds the target, cannot be separated from the hard work of regional officials (PD), sub-district and sub-district officials throughout the city of Surabaya. Not only that, the participation of the Great Surabaya Cadres (KSH), the PKK Mobilization Team (TP), and universities was also taken into account.

He added that the Surabaya City Government, through the Surabaya City Health Office, is also intensifying the Polio Sub PIN sweeping strategy. This sweep was carried out in various places, starting from RW Hall immunization service posts, sub-districts, schools, public places (TTU), train stations, terminals, malls, to going door to door to residents’ homes.

“Various efforts have been made massively, together with sub-districts, sub-districts, TP PKK, KSH, RT/RW and the academic community involved in the Surabaya City Sub PIn Polio team,” he concluded.
