“Supreme Court to Hear SNC Lavalin Case Against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan”

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the Lovelin case against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on 24th. The Chief Justice constituted a new bench. Justice MR. Shah, Justice CT. The CBI approached the Supreme Court against the 2017 High Court verdict acquitting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Energy Secretary K. Mohanachandran and Joint Secretary A. Francis. The Supreme Court has asked the CBI to provide clear reasons if the judgment is to be quashed. The CBI’s contention is that KSEB has suffered heavy financial losses due to the Lavlin deal. The CBI has also clarified that the change of consultancy contract to supply contract benefited the Lavlin company.

In the case, the High Court ruled that KG Rajasekharan Nair, former financial adviser of the Electricity Board, R. Sivadasan, former chairman of the board, and Kasthuriranga Iyer, former chief engineer, should face trial. The Supreme Court is also considering the appeal petition filed by them demanding that they be exempted from the case.
